Prompted by the rape and murder of The Gits&#8217; lead singer Mia Zapata, and other deaths in the Arts and Music community.<!--more--> Scared and infuriated, her friends and community members came together to share theirs fears and discuss how to be safe in that environment. The result was a low-cost self defense program. Understanding the connection between self defense and self-expression, nine women politicized the Seattle scene.<br \/>\nusa, 2013, 60 min, ov, digital<\/p>\n<p>The film makers Leah Michaels and Rozz Therrien will be present during the screening.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"highlight\">venue:<\/span> b-movie, Brigittenstra\u00dfe 5, HAMBURG<br \/>\n<span class=\"highlight\">date:<\/span> January 13th, 2015<br \/>\n<span class=\"highlight\">beginning:<\/span> bar: 6.30 pm, film: 8pm<\/p>\n<p>Leah Michaels is a graduate of the University of Washington where she received her B.A. in History. Now based in Baltimore, Michaels has been working on completing her first film with co-creator Rozz Therrien. Michaels hopes the film will honor the story of Home Alive, and inspire the use of art with community action as a means to counter the culture of violence. <\/p>\n<p>Rozz Therrien is a recent graduate from the University of Washington where she majored in American Ethnic Studies. Now based in Boise, she has spent the past two years working on her first film with co-creator Leah Michaels. As the film reaches completion, Therrien hopes the film\u2019s message of community organizing will inspire a stronger sense of social responsibility.
